Mersea Week 2016 Report

Mersea Week 2016

What an amazing week. After all the meetings, discussions, planning and hard work it was worth every second to see vessels of every description take to the beautiful Blackwater during Mersea Week. Glorious sunshine prevailed throughout making this ‘Champagne Sailing’ at its very best.
This year there was a record entry of nearly 200 boats coming from many different UK clubs, travelling far and wide to take part. The members of the Mersea Week committee who have many years of experience and much expertise in race management are truly delighted to see ‘Mersea Week’ continuing to grow in popularity this way.

The icing on the cake or maybe that extra bit of ‘wind in our sails’ was local girl and Olympic Gold medal winner, Saskia Clark, returning home to relax and enjoy the week with us all.

The Mersea Week Committee, West Mersea Yacht Club and the Dabchicks Sailing Club are all truly grateful to Adnams, Hempel Paints, West Mersea Oyster Bar, Micro Scooters, West Mersea Marine, Quest Motors, Fenn Wright and Peter Clarke’s Boatyard. Without you we could not put on this event that is enjoyed by so many – ‘Thank You’.

A very big ‘Thank You’ too to each and every one of our competitors. We are delighted you chose to join us, we know you had a good time and we are already looking forward to seeing you sailing back on the Blackwater with us in 2017.

Until then and as Mark Twain once said, ‘throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails and explore, dream and discover’
