Event name: MERSEA WEEK 2015
Dates: Sunday 16th August – Friday 21st August 2015
Sailing Clubs: Dabchicks Sailing Club and West Mersea Yacht Club
Event details: Mersea Week is a ‘family and friends’-oriented week. The sheltered waters of the River Blackwater provide perfect conditions and space to run daily racing with expert race management and courses for all. The week includes many traditions, not least the Round The Island Race (Mersea Island) for the coveted Coconut Trophy (dinghies only) on the Wednesday.
Regatta Racing Format: Daily Starts and prize givings for all Classes.
Classes Eligible: IRC, Local Handicap and White Sail Cruisers, Classic Yachts and Gaffers, Smacks, Winkle Brigs and Bumpkins, Dinghies Fast, Medium and Slow.
Entry Fee: Keelboats £40, Dinghies £30 for Mersea Week Sponsors: Hempel Paints and Adnams Brewery Social Scene: Bands playing and events every day at both clubs after racing. Food available at both clubs and there are many local pubs and famous eateries and takeaways. Funfair and Fireworks on final Saturday night. Accommodation available for all budgets.
Top Tips: Something for all the family and all age groups. Try our famous Native oysters and locally caught fish. Wonderful beach for the non-sailors, where one can view the racing. Mersea Week saw over 800 competitors last year and the event continues to grow year on year. Thanks to the generosity of the daily and weekly sponsors, we are able to keep the entry fee low and it is such a winning formula that everyone has such a great time and they keep coming back.
Testimonials: From our Facebook page Mersea Week
It’s nearly a week since the end of Mersea Week and slowly the bruises are disappearing and the aches and pains are easing but we wouldn’t have missed it for the world. It was a great week, saw new crew achieving heaps, ticked a few more ‘first time’ boxes and even won a race! Thank you to everyone who had any part in the organisation and running of the week but especially to Brian and Wendy for the courses and Greg for excellent prize givings. Roll on 2013!
Liz Harrison (Maverick).
